Whats the point of putting pictures of yourself up on myspace or facebook?

Everybody says to put pics up but im scared to and im a 17 year old boy, there might be haters, death threats,pedophiles,teasers and etc, ask for more reasons in your question if you want to because im to lazy to list them all currently. Its dangerous in my opinion to put pics up on your facebook
