Do you see Obesity as a threat to US security ?
Speaking as one of the obese (5'4" and weighing in at 301 lbs.), I can see a connection with national security issues if this sort of obesity occurs at a very young age---an age where young children and teenagers spend a majority of their time sitting either in front of a computer screen or the television. The sheer drain on the health care and economic systems alone is a national threat due to the various illnesses attributed to such extremes in weight. Exercise is VITAL to prevent weight-related illnesses (such as diabetes, circulatory or heart problems, etc.), and far too many of our young people today do not get anywhere near enough exercise to maintain a healthy lifestyle. The steady diet of soda pop and sugary or greasy foods undermines concentration, energy, and intellect in the same way the steady ingestion of elephant-poop propaganda has wreaked havoc upon our nation's collective consciousness and our ability to discern truth from fiction. A stronger focus on daily physical activities and healthy foods certainly won't HURT our country, but a continued obsession with lethargy, inactivity, and junk foods most likely WILL over the long run in more ways than one. Having served in the military (and being relegated to "Pudgy Platoon" the first two weeks of bootcamp for being only 14 pounds over ideal weight---ah, how I long for those days now...lol), I can personally attest to the need for physical fitness in order to more effectively serve in any branch of military.
