What is the marginal tax percentage rate on buyout bonus packages offered from your job?

My job is offering a buyout package of about $38000 lumps sum before tax. I want to know will I walk away with at least $25000, $20000 or less. They won't give me an exact figure but said it will be taxed as a cash gift, whatever that entails. Thanks for your help.
