What makes Dan Haren Mexican?

He is American, he was born in California, but in Wikipedia it says he's also Mexican. What makes him Mexican? For example, Jerry and Scott Hairston even player for Mexico in the WBC, because their mother's Mexican. Or Adrian Gonzalez is originally Mecican though he was born in San Diego. So I just want to know what males him Mexican, or is Wikipedia just wrong?
